I think it’s possible. I can tell you for sure that my dogs have gotten stomach viruses from me twice before. I’d just watch the bump for a day or so and if it gets worse take him to the vet. Be careful what you apply to it, though. Any kind of antibiotic ointment could make him sick if he licks his lips. Poor little guy. Hope it’s nothing more than just a little bug bit.

This type of virus cannot be spread from dog to human. The only things that I know of that can be transmitted between the 2 are worms and ringworm.

There are indeed viruses that can pass back and forth between species. It would be a good idea to call a vet and find out exactly which ones can do it and if herpes is one of them. That said the likely hood of your dog contracting it is small. The bump is more likely an infected hair follicle or something of that nature, but until you check with a vet I would avoid kissing your dog too much.

My vet told me that it’s not possible to catch things from animals and vice versa, I believe it though b/c my cats catch colds from one another, and they’ll be around me, and I’ll kiss and hug them, I’ve never caught anything from them, and they’ve never caught anything from me. I know you can catch rabies from something that has it and bites you….I dunno?

I didnt find anything about herpes, but ZOONOTIC DISEASES are diseases caused by infectious agents that can be transmitted between (or are shared by) animals and humans. Here is a link to a site with a lot of information….

Canine herpesvirus is a fatal, viral infection of puppies. It also may be associated with upper respiratory infection in adult dogs. Only dogs, wolves and coyotes are known to be susceptible.
Your neighbor is wrong. But have your vet check out the bump on your dog’s lip, could be a tumor.
